Olivia Culpo and Christian McCaffrey recently tied the knot on June 29. However, the Miss Universe 2012 and Miss USA 2012 title holder faced a lot of backlash regarding her wedding dress online. As such, fans of the model want to know why she was facing said backlash.

Why is Olivia Culpo receiving backlash for her wedding dress?
Olivia Culpo is receiving backlash online for how her wedding dress looked and the makeup she wore.
Culpo has also received criticism for her recent comments about choosing her dress in a Vogue Magazine interview. In the interview, she revealed what went behind designing her wedding look. Saying she wanted a look that was evocative of her commitment to her marriage with Christian McCaffrey.
In the interview, she also said that she did not want the dress to “exude sex in any way, shape, or form.” She added that she desired an appearance that would “complement” and not “overpower” her personally. The Miss Universe 2012 holder also added that she thought about Christian and claimed he would love her in her wedding dress because of its “timeless, covered, and elegant” look.
Vogue also reported Culpo telling them that she did not wear makeup, mascara, lip-liner or eye-browed gel.
Many people took to TikTok to air their opinions on Culpo’s comments. For instance, Jess Weslie claimed on the platform that Culpo’s words sounded like those of a “pick me girl.” This basically refers to a girl seeking male validation by claiming she is not like other girls. She also criticized Vogue’s coverage and wished for them to be “astronomically for real right now” and pointed out that Culpo had a lash lift.
Another social media user and content creator, Kennedy Bingham, aka GownEyedGirl, also took to TikTok to criticize Olivia Culpo. Not only did she spew negativity about her dress, but she also called Vogue’s coverage a “bitter aftertaste.”
She also accused Culpo of seemingly pushing her idea of what every bride should look like. Bingham called her out for claiming not to have found inspiration for her wedding dress online and pulled up some pictures of people who have worn wedding dresses similar to Culpo’s. She also criticized Culpo’s decision to work with Dolce & Gabbana on the dress, as the fashion company had reportedly been mired in controversy for its racist views and opinions on the LGBTQ community.
According to Today, many social media users, including Culpo’s husband Christian McCaffrey, took to Instagram to criticize Bingham’s words. McCaffrey called out Bingham for posting something “evil” online. He expressed his hope that she found “joy and peace in the world” like Culpo.
As per BuzzFeed, Olivia Culpo herself criticized Bingham online and called Bingham an “evil person.” Culpo expressed her hopes that no one would tear down Bingham like she was tearing down her and called Bingham’s words “extremely hurtful.” She also affirmed that the wedding dress was everything she wanted.
