Did Andy Murray have back surgery?

Andy Murray indeed underwent back surgery a few weeks back to deal with his internal ailments.

The British superstar’s last tennis outing occurred in the 2024 Cinch Championships, where he successfully progressed to the second round. However, in the said bout against Jordan Thompson, Murray had to settle for early retirement due to fitness issues. It was later confirmed that the veteran athlete was facing discomfort in his right leg and back, as per The Independent. Consequently, the iconic sportsman endured an operation on a spinal cyst, casting a shadow of doubt on his Wimbledon participation.

Murray was initially advised to rest for a period of six weeks after his back surgery. However, his camp soon issued a statement that confirmed his unavailability for the 2024 Wimbledon singles category. As a result, Murray’s last hurrah at the most prestigious tournament in tennis had to end prematurely.

Nonetheless, the two-time Wimbledon champion later appeared in the competition through the men’s doubles bracket. Murray, alongside his brother Jamie, went up against John Peers and Rinky Hijikata in the first round and ended up losing the bout. Still, the 37-year-old maestro currently has a third shot at the contest with the mixed doubles category. Despite his recent recovery from back surgery, Murray is set to team up with compatriot Emma Raducanu. The duo is scheduled to face Marcelo Arévalo and Zhang Shuai in the second round of Wimbledon’s mixed doubles tier.
