Chainsaw Man (CSM) Chapter 170 Recap & Spoilers

Chainsaw Man chapter 170 was released on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, on Viz Media’s official website. Following the vague conversation between Barem Bridge and Denji, this installment was expected to confirm Control Devil Nayuta’s whereabouts. The shocking revelation at the end of the chapter gave the plot a horrid twist.

Chainsaw Man chapter 170, “How to Eat Sushi,” continued the story from the previous issue. As such, Barem Bridge offered Denji a plate of sushi to eat. Frustrated and shocked by Barem’s cold demeanor, Denji yelled in disbelief. However, Barem insisted he ate the sushi and did things “in the proper order.”

Denji refused Barem’s advances, prompting the latter to use Nayuta’s name. Knowing quite well that Denji’s only weakness is Nayuta, he told Denji that he would not get the chance to see Nayuta if he disobeyed Barem’s instructions.

Upon hearing Barem’s threat, Denji immediately started stuffing his mouth with sushi. Barem called Denji out for eating impatiently, instructing him to savor the sushi by leaving it on top of his tongue for a while.

This angered Denji, and he started throwing things off the table. He asked Barem if he would take Denji to Nayuta if he killed the public safety officials outside the building. Barem continued speaking in riddles, asking Denji to calm down.

What happened in Chainsaw Man chapter 170?

Barem informed Denji that the public safety officials did not want to kill Denji. Their mere purpose was to use Chainsaw Man’s power to their advantage. Denji snapped and asked if all he needed to do was turn into Chainsaw Man. However, Barem insisted on doing things in a proper order.

Barem told Denji his transformation into Chainsaw Man was incomplete, and the Church did not want just about any Chainsaw Man. They wanted a Chainsaw Man with the power to erase devil names from existence.

A confused and frustrated Denji lashed out at Barem, yelling that Chainsaws did not have the power to do such a thing. Besides, chainsaws were the tools only for cutting down trees.

Barem responded that chainsaws originally had various uses until Chainsaw Man eradicated many things, leading to just one use after all – cutting trees down. Following this, Barem offered another plate of lean tuna sushi to Denji, which Denji helplessly devoured.

Barem continued his instructions, informing Denji that he needed to fulfill two conditions to become Chainsaw Man. Denji needed everyone’s fear and his unhappiness. However, Chainsaw, aka Denji’s recent heroism, failed to fulfill conditions, albeit he became an object of fear comparable to aging and sickness.

Chainsaw Man chapter 170 ending explained

Barem then told Denji it was time to eat some deluxe fatty tuna, while the latter stared at him in disbelief. The Private Devil Hunter ordered a plate of sushi, and the chef obliged with him.

However, before Barem could continue his conversation with Denji and the latter could shove another plate of sushi into his mouth, the bar was suddenly filled with commotion. Various people inside the restaurant began yelling in disgust and shock.

After a sequence of manga panels recorded common people’s reactions, the focus shifted to Haruka Iseumi, Katana Man, and Asa Mitaka. All of them shrieked as if they saw something horrifying and nauseating.

Although Fami remained unruffled by the commotion, others sprang out of their seats in horror. A zoomed-out panel showed someone’s bare head on one of the sushi conveyor belts. Denji looked at Barem Bridge while the latter cheekily smiled at the Chainsaw Man.

A close-up of the scenario showed Control Devil Nayuta’s severed head on the sushi conveyor. The issue ended with the close-up without revealing whether Denji saw the appalling scene. If Denji did see Nayuta’s head, the chapter ended with a cliffhanger before revealing his reaction.
