The upcoming romantic Chinese drama The First Frost will soon meet viewers. It features popular actors Bai Jingting and Zhang Ruonan in the lead roles. Ever since the announcement of the anticipated drama, fans have been torn about whether it is a continuation of Sang Zhi (Zhao Lusi) and Duan Jiaxu’s (Chen Zheyuan) love story from the widely popular Chinese drama Hidden Love. While The First Frost is an adaptation of Zhu Yi’s web novel First Frost, Hidden Love was based on Secretly, Secretly; But Unable to Hide It by the same author.
Is The First Frost a spin-off of Hidden Love?
The newly released official teaser trailer features the story of Wen Yi Fan (Zhang Ruonan), a reporter. She visits a bar to meet a friend and accidentally bumps into Sang Yan (Bai Jingting). Unknown to her, he is the department manager and owner of the bar. It turns out that he was Yi Fan’s high school crush. To avoid embarrassment, Yi Fan pretends that she does not know him, and to her surprise, the latter does the same. Things get complicated even further when circumstances force the duo to become housemates. Gradually, they develop feelings for each other.
The First Frost takes place in the same timeline and fictional world as Hidden Love. But it won’t focus on the former couple’s story. Rather, it explores the story of Sang Zhi’s elder brother, Sang Yan.
In Hidden Love, Sang Yan’s character was portrayed by Victor Ma, but in the upcoming drama, Bai Jingting will play the role.
Other than the lead actors, viewers will see Edward Chen, Zhang Miaoyi, Yuan Ye, Zhai Xiaowen, and Liu Chu Tian in pivotal roles. Chu Yu Ning is the director of the drama.
