The ongoing Chinese drama The Princess Royal released episode 9 on June 28, 2024. The show is one of the few to secure the highest reservations even before airing. As seen in the official trailer, it follows the story of Li Rong (Zhao Jinmai) and Pei Wenxuan (Zhang Linghe), who marry each other to serve their own purposes, but they turn bitter and fall prey to each other’s schemes. Episode 9 focuses on the couple getting married for the second time.
In this episode, Li Rong sees Wenxuan talking to Yang, who has been put on death row. Yang is being punished for plotting against the Emperor and murdering a foreign merchant. Li Rong fails to understand why he would want to talk to a dying man. Wenxuan reveals that only a dying man can teach someone to value life and how to avoid dying a pathetic death.
Wenxuan brings up how Li Rong always calls herself selfish. But she has proven her own statement wrong by begging her father to cover up the body of the concubine after she died while attacking her. Wenxuan assures her that he will always be there to protect her.

Li Rong catches up with her father. She praises Pei Wenxuan for being there for her and shielding her after she got locked up. When asked what she thinks of him, she reveals that she has grown fond of him. The Emperor assures that he will soon send the marriage decree to the Pei Mansion.
Meanwhile, Pei Wenxuan has been struggling with money. Bills have started to pile up, and lenders wait outside his residence to receive long-due payments. During this time, he receives the marriage decree sent by the Emperor. After he accepts it, his family members gather around to congratulate him. Everyone seems to be happy except his mother.
Wenxuan assures his mother that he was the one who asked Li Rong to marry him and that he is not being pressured by her. His mother worries that he is still not over Qin Zhenzhen and doesn’t fancy Li Rong the same way he does. Wenxuan reveals that Li Rong is a good person, and she will start to like her once she gets to know her.

Further, in the episode, concubine Rou convinces the Emperor to appoint Su Rongqing as the tutor of Li Cheng. Meanwhile, Li Rong continues her playful banter with Wenxuan. As the groom is supposed to choose the wedding gown for his bride, she completely ignores Wenxuan’s pick and chooses the other option. Her happiness knows no bounds when Li Chuan returns to the capital on the occasion of his sister’s wedding.
Su Rongqing meets Wenxuan before the marriage ceremony. It is quite evident that Wenxuan is not fond of Rongqing. Su asks Wenxuan not to get involved with other women and embarrass the princess. He spends the day before the royal wedding shedding tears and drinking to ease his pain.
On the day of the wedding, Li Rong dresses up in regal attire and seeks blessings from her parents. Her parents happily give her their approval. They ask her to be meticulous and dutiful and serve her new family.
What happens in The Princess Royal episode 9’s ending?
As shown in the episode, it is customary for the groom’s brothers to pick up the bride before the wedding. But Wenxuan is not on good terms with his brothers. He sends Su Rongqing, his sworn brother, to collect Li Rong. Her heart breaks when she sees his face.
When Wenxuan lays his eyes on Li Rong in her wedding dress, her beauty mesmerizes him. He falls for her all over again. The couple finally gets married in front of the Pei family.
