Kalki 2898 AD Filming Location: Where Was It Shot?

After being in production for years, themythological sci-fi action film Kalki 2898 AD has finally arrived in the theaters. The Nag Ashwin directorial is an ambitious project whose story is based in a dystopian world. With an alleged budget of $72 million, it is one of the most expensive Indian films. This project has introduced the audience to a new dimension of mythological storytelling.

Where was Kalki 2898 AD shot?

Kalki 2898 AD went on floors in 2021, and the filming took place at Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad. The location already holds many sets of various big-budget projects. For the Nag Ashwin directorial, the production constructed extravagant sets in the film city, where they shot several schedules.

However, Hyderabad was not the only location where Kalki 2898 AD’s filming took place. The makers also head to Italy to film a few sequences in the freezing cold weather. Disha Patani, who portrayed the role of Roxie in the film, teased several pictures from the schedule. Most pictures show the scenic view in the backdrop as Disha tried to stay warm in the cold weather. On the other hand, some photographs also featured Prabhas in the set.

Besides the practical location, the makers have also used heavy VFX work to create the world. In an interview with ETimes, the supervisor of a Canada-based company revealed details of the shooting. The crew member elaborated on how they took over 700 shots to create the world of Kalki.

The supervisor said, “We were responsible for around 700 shots in Kalki 2898 AD. Most of our work on the film takes place in a desert wasteland that we were tasked with realizing in CG. The bulk of our work involved creating futuristic vehicles involved in a high-speed desert chase and an epic battle between the main characters. In order to complete these shots, we employed a wide range of visual effects techniques including creating environments, vehicles, weapons and destruction, explosions, digital stunt doubles, holograms, you name it and you did it!”

The film follows the events of the Mahabharata and features several characters from the Hindu epic. The incidents take place in 2898 AD when evil forces have stolen life and sustenance from the Earth.

Kalki 2898 AD is currently running in theaters.
