Is Gaimon a canon character in One Piece?
Yes, Gaimon is a canon character in One Piece. However, there were some distinct differences with his appearance in the anime compared to the manga.
In the manga, his first appearance was between the Orange Town arc and the Syrup Village arc. The only Straw Hats he met were Luffy and Nami. In the anime, they placed his first appearance between the Syrup Village arc and the Baratie arc. So in the anime, it was Luffy, Nami, Zoro, and Usopp who met him.
Gaimon is a former pirate. His crew ended up on the Island of Rare Animals after hearing reports about treasure being buried there. Their crew didn’t find much other than an empty chest. Gaimon then decided to climb the island’s steepest and highest cliff, where he saw five treasure chests. Unfortunately, he lost his grip, falling into the empty chest at the bottom.
He was stuck in the chest and he ended up adapting to it. He decided to become the island’s guardian and became friends with the animals around the island. When he met the Straw Hats and got along with them, Luffy offered to climb the cliff to get the treasure chests. Unfortunately, they were empty.
Gaimon decided to stay on the island, remaining a guardian for the rare animals around the island. He also declined Luffy’s invitation to join the Straw Hats because of this.
Who is Gaimon’s girlfriend?
Sarfunkel is a barrel woman who appears to be very close to Gaimon. We first see her in the cover story of Chapter 620 of the manga.
Sometime after Gaimon met the Straw Hats, Sarfunkel arrived at the island and became friends with him. In the manga cover, it shows Sarfunkel feeding him. While One Piece Film: Red isn’t really canon, the credits show Gaimon and Sarfunkel holding hands while Uta’s song is playing. The Chapter 1119 spoilers reveal that there’s a panel of the two looking happy with the animals.
