Kalki 2898 AD part 2 release date rumors explained
Rumors about a sequel began circulating even before the release of the first film. In 2023, during a discussion, a student asked director Nag Ashwin if Kalki 2898 AD was intended to be India’s answer to Star Wars. Ashwin responded, “I don’t think so…this will be India’s K. It’s India’s Project K, India’s Kalki. It’s one film and I think that’s enough.”
Despite this, the possibility of a sequel was not entirely dismissed. In the first episode of The Prelude of Kalki 2898 AD, Ashwin shared his inspiration from the epics Ramayana and Mahabharata. He described Kalki 2898 AD as almost a sequel to the Mahabharata, set in the final Yuga, Kaliyuga. “The world of Kalki is something that we are saying is almost like a sequel to the last epic that we have of these characters of the previous Yugas,” he explained.
Now, just hours before the release of Kalki 2898 AD, Prabhas hinted at a potential sequel during an Instagram Live session. He encouraged Ashwin to start writing the script for Kalki 2898 AD Part 2, saying, “You have part 2. Take 10 days and start writing.” This statement has fueled speculations, suggesting that the movie could indeed have a follow-up. Furthermore, rumors have circulated about Kamal Haasan playing a more significant role in the second part. However, there has been no official confirmation from the filmmakers.
While there is no official release date for Kalki 2898 AD Part 2, the hints dropped by Prabhas and the movie’s commercial success suggest that a sequel could be on the horizon.
