One Piece: How Did Bonney Get Gear 5?

Fans who have read the recent manga chapters would have seen her epic transformation and now many are asking how Jewelry Bonney gets Gear 5 in One Piece. So, here is a guide on Bonney’s Gear 5 in One Piece.

How did Bonney get Gear 5 in One Piece?

Jewelry Bonney managed to transform into Gear 5 after using the Distorted Future technique of her Devil Fruit.

Bonney’s Devil Fruit, the Toshi Toshi no Mi (Age-Age Fruit), has a technique called Distortion Future or Distorted Future. This technique allows Bonney to change into a version of herself from a possible future. She can also use this technique on other people, as seen when she turns Luffy into an old man from a “different future.”

In Chapter 1118, as the Gorosei (Five Elders) attack the Elbaf ship, Luffy encourages Bonney to change into the same form as him. Bonney sees this form as Nika and doesn’t believe that she can keep up with Luffy. But she remembers what Luffy said about being totally free, which helps her transform into Gear 5.

For now, we are not yet aware of the extent of Bonney’s Gear 5/Nika transformation. In her previous Distortion Future transformations, she was able to copy some of Luffy’s abilities such as his rubber properties and Gear 3 and 4 forms.

It seems to be a strong and promising form since she managed to be around the same size as Luffy. However, her stamina is different from Luffy’s and it’s possible that she won’t be able to maintain the form for very long. Similar to Luffy, she might need to eat a lot to regain her strength and stamina.

Either way, Bonney continues to prove to be a strong ally to the Straw Hats in the Egghead arc. We’ll have to wait and see to find out how strong she’ll become in this form.
