The Player 2: Master of Swindlers Episode 8 Recap & Spoilers

The Player 2: Master of Swindlers episode 8 aired on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, on tvN and Viki. Starring Song Seung-Heon in the lead role, the action-crime K-drama tells the story of a high-profile swindler, popularly known as a player. He and his team join forces with Oh Yeon-Seo to catch rich people who make money illegally.

In the previous episode, player Kang Ha-Ri (Seung-Heon) puts his life and reputation in danger to catch real estate fraudster David Myeong (Lee Soo-Hyuk). However, the latter killed himself on the way to the police station under gangster Jeffrey’s order. The episode ended with Jung Soo-Min (Yeon-Seo) presenting a new mission to Ha-Ri. This time, they had to catch a cult leader, Lim Sang-Rik (Heo Sung-Tae).

Episode 8 of The Player 2: Master of Swindlers begins with the introduction of Sang-Rik’s evil side. He tortures and kills a man who tries to expose his deeds to the public. However, he gives a chance to another person, as the latter agrees to join him. Will Ha-Ri and his team be able to stop the cult leader? Let’s find out!

What happened in The Player 2: Master of Swindlers episode 8? 

The newest episode of The Player 2: Master of Swindlers shows Ha-Ri laying his trap for Sang-Rik. He and Soo-Min attend one of the events of the cult leader. While leaving, Sang-Rik’s subordinate finds out that Ha-Ri, disguised as someone else named Kim Han-Joon, has donated 500 million won. It attracts the cult leader’s attention, and he seeks a personal audience with Ha-Ri.

Soon after, the House of Truth chairman, Sang-Rik, offers Ha-Ri to join him. The latter mentions that he is a fan of the former and would love to join him. However, Sang-Rik is curious to know why Ha-Ri has come to South Korea from the US for him. The latter claims that the foreign country does not have cult leaders like him. Initially, the word “cult” irks Sang-Rik, but Ha-Ri’s praises for him dilute the situation.

Did Heo Sung-Tae fall into Song Seung-Heon’s trap?

The Player 2: Master of Swindlers’ episode 8 further shows Sang-Rik falling into Ha-Ri’s trap. While he joins the cult leader, Soo-Min has already made her way as Sang-Rik’s devotee. The cult leader gets deeper into the trap when Ha-Ri brings a fake client. To reward him, Sang-Rik invites Ha-Ri to a personal gathering, where he forces Ha-Ri to strip a young girl. Thankfully, everyone loses consciousness at the right time, and Ha-Ri doesn’t have to go through the horrific situation. Soo-Min arrives at the scene, revealing that it has been part of their plan.

Meanwhile, Sang-Rik’s subordinate does a background check on Ha-Ri’s Han-Joon cover. This check reveals that things don’t add up, leaving the subordinate suspicious. When the latter tries to expose Ha-Ri, everything goes sideways, and the subordinate is suspended from his duties. Later, Ha-Ri becomes one of the trustworthy workers for Sang-Rik. Meanwhile, the swindlers’ team learns that the cult leader will likely physically abuse a young girl. Fortunately, Ha-Ri and Soo-Min save her by switching on the fire alarm.

The Player 2: Master of Swindlers episode 8 ending spoilers

Towards the end of episode 8, Soo-Min distracts Sang-Rik from finding out who is responsible for the false fire alarm. Ha-Ri then tries to save Soo-Min from Sang-Rik but fails to do so.

After Sang-Rik closes his room’s door, he attacks Soo-Min, asking to reveal her true identity. He attempts to choke her and threatens her to tell him the truth. Soo-Min tries to get out of the situation, stating that she has an offer for a good investment scheme. Despite many attempts, she fails to distract Sang-Rik. The episode ends with him attacking her again.
