The modern Chinese drama The Tale of Rose, starring Liu Yifei in the main role, recently released its final set of episodes. As seen in the official trailer, Yi Mei (Liu Yifei), the protagonist of the drama, turns heads wherever she goes. Previously, in episode 37 of the drama, we witnessed Yi Mei’s budding friendship with her flying instructor, He Xi (Lin Yi). The ending of the drama focused on Yi Mei’s encounter with her ex-husband, Fang Xie Wen (Lin Gengxin).
In the final episode, Huang Zhen Hua works hard to mend his relationship with his wife. He finally starts to put in an effort to get back on his feet. Meanwhile, Xie Wen brings his daughter, Taichu, to his apartment. He has prepared a beautiful room for his daughter to stay in. His daughter asks him about his co-worker, Ms. Xiaoyu. She seems to like her and wants her father to date her.
But her father quickly dismisses her idea and asks her not to mention Ms. Xiaoyu’s name in front of Yi Mei. Xie Wen wants his daughter to study at an international school. But Taichu refuses to leave her current school and friends behind. Even though the pressure of studies is immense, she wants to gain freedom by learning many things.
What happened in The Tale of Rose episode 38?
Xie Wen is amazed to see how much Yi Mei’s ideologies have influenced Taichu. He comes to know that his ex-wife has been taking flying lessons. He gets jealous when Taichu shows him He Xi’s photos and praises him.
Meanwhile, after their flying lesson, Yi Mei and He Xi go out for a meal. Xi reveals that he is going to listen to her advice and not pigeonhole himself. He will apply for a CAAC license and pay for the tuition himself. Even though the expenses are high, he is not going to give up on his dream.
He Xi reveals that he is scared to contact the flying school. As he was grounded once, he is afraid that the school might reject his application. Yi Mei convinces him by saying that there will always be two possibilities. While he may receive a negative response, he should think positively about how he will get closer to his dreams if things go the right way.
Then, viewers see Xie Wen coming to pick Yi Mei up from her lessons. He gets jealous when he hears that Yi Mi shared a meal with He Xi. He comments on the age gap between them. His crude comments annoy Yi Mei, and she decides to play along. She praises He Xi for being sincere, handsome, and kind, and she expresses her willingness to date him if he confesses to her.

Meanwhile, He Xi doesn’t want to come between Yi Mei and Xie Wen. Yi Mei assures him that Xie Wen is her ex-husband.
Then, in the episode, Yi Mei comes over to Xie Wen’s house to celebrate his birthday. While cutting the cake, Xie Wen can’t help but reminisce about how Yi Mei celebrated his birthday with a bowl of noodles when they were broke.
After dinner, the ex-couple catches up. He thinks that there is a reason why none of them could move on with someone new in all these years. He expresses his desire to get back with Yi Mei. When Yi Mei turns down his proposal, he thinks that she accepted him before because she was at a low point in life.

Yi Mei successfully graduates from the flight academy and obtains a license. He Xi gets into his dream school. When Yi Mei comes to see him off at the airport, He Xi promises her to come back after a year. Yi Mei stops him before he can confess his feelings to her. They hug before parting ways, and He Xi plants a kiss on her forehead.
Yi Mei makes a promise to herself to live life on her own terms. No matter the destination, she will continue to savor her journey.
