The Acolyte Episode 5 Sith Master: How Does Qimir Know Sol?

Star Wars: The Acolyte Episode 5 offers explosive 30-plus minutes of action and mayhem, ending with the deaths of multiple characters that the fans have come to know and adore. It also includes a big revelation about Qimir (Manny Jacinto) and implications that he might have known Sol (Lee Jung-jae) before the events of The Acolyte.

Here is what we believe on the prospects of Qimir previously knowing Sol.

How does Qimir know Sol in The Acolyte?

In episode 5, titled “Night,” Jecki Lon succeeds in removing the mask of Mae’s master before he kills her. The mysterious user of the Dark Side of the Force turns out to be Qimir. Sol, Yord, Jecki, and Osha met Qimir in episode 2 while they were on Planet Olega and the latter was pretending to be the local apothecary. Although the Jedi try to keep a close eye on him, Qimir escapes with Mae (Amandla Stenberg).

In the fifth episode, during his confrontation with Sol, Qimir identifies himself as a Sith and states that he will kill everyone who has seen his face to keep his identity a secret. As we have previously discussed, Mae’s master being a Sith automatically brings up certain questions regarding the Star Wars canon. However, one thing seems certain, the Sith are in hiding during the timeline of The Acolyte, the High Republic Era. While Qimir is powerful and desires to bring down the Jedi Order, he alone can not take on the might of the entire Order. And if the galaxy comes to know about his existence, that is exactly what will happen.

Moreover, the interaction between Sol, Qimir, and Mae seems to have multiple layers. It is possible that Sol had encountered Qimir long before their meeting on Olega. Qimir seems to have a good knowledge about what happened on Brendok 16 years ago. While Mae might just have told him about it, we speculate that he was there at the time and was even involved in the destruction of the coven of witches.

Perhaps, Sol, Indara, Kelnacca, and Torbin fought Qimir on Brendok, and the sense of guilt they all seem to bear stems from that. A part of each of them, influenced by the Sith, probably believed themselves to be responsible for the massacre of the witches. Qimir, being the powerful Force user he is, may have even made them forget about him. With Sol encountering him 16 years later, those hidden memories might have begun to resurface in Sol’s mind, offering a possible explanation for the interaction between the two.
