The modern Chinese drama The Tale of Rose, starring Liu Yifei in the main role, recently released its final set of episodes. The anticipated drama crossed milestones even before premiering. As seen in the official trailer and recap stories, it tells the complicated story of Huang Yi Mei (Liu Yifei), who struggles to find her own identity while going through multiple heartbreaks. Episode 37 of the drama focuses on her growing closeness with He Xi (Lin Yi), her flight instructor.
In this episode, Huang Yi Mei takes flying lessons. However, her attitude has made her unpopular among the instructors, leading to their refusing to teach her. When He Xi overhears her previous instructor badmouthing her and refusing to teach her any longer, he volunteers to be her new teacher. The previous teacher tries to warn him, but he remains adamant as he is in need of money.
Episode 37 of The Tale of Rose also shows tidbits from Huang Zhen Hua’s married life with Su Gengsheng. They get into an argument when Gengsheng mentions her husband’s unwillingness to get back up on his feet. She is tired of covering for him.
Meanwhile, Yi Mei reaches the flight academy, only to find out that she needs to learn theory before she gets to fly an actual plane. She attempts to persuade her instructor, He Xi, to let her fly a plane, but he refuses.

During her lessons, He Xi is impressed to find that Yi Mei is a fast learner despite not paying attention in class. He is starting to get smitten by her nonchalant attitude. While returning from the academy, Yi Mei’s bike breaks down in the middle of the road. The place is in the middle of nowhere and far from the city.
Fortunately, He Xi, who is passing, offers to lend her a helping hand. He promises to fix her motorbike and also calls a cab for her to return home. He uses this opportunity to exchange contacts with her. After she leaves, he is seen admiring her pictures.
Furthermore, episode 37 of The Tale of Rose shows Yi Mei and her daughter’s loving relationship. They have contrasting personalities and ideologies. While her daughter thinks that Yi Mei is wasting time learning and taking examinations at her age, Yi Mei relates studying to freedom. Her daughter reveals how differently Yi Mei treats her than other parents. She never even yells at her. Meanwhile, Yi Mei receives a text from He Xi saying that her bike has been fixed.
He Xi refuses to take any money from Yi Mei, and she offers to buy him a meal. Meanwhile, he receives a call from the training center. They refuse to revoke his warning and deem him unqualified for flying. As a result, he can’t continue with further training and assessment. The company has canceled his qualifications and refused to fund his training. But instead of letting this setback determine his future, He Xi decides to pay for his own training and try again.
What happens in The Tale of Rose episode 37’s ending?
During their lessons, Yi Mei and He Xi grow closer. Xi helps Yi Mei when she panics during one of her lessons while experiencing a storm. He makes her feel confident.
Xi shares his background story with her and how he ended up teaching at the academy. He reveals that he was a licensed pilot and posted in Florida. But he got in a fight with a fellow pilot who called him racial slurs. But the reserved pilots, who were present at the scene, blamed the whole incident on him, and he ended up getting grounded. He feels as if he has ruined his own life.
Yi Mei cheers him up by saying that he is still young and will definitely experience larger setbacks later. Although she is quite a lot older than him, she is confident and shamelessly keeps trying until she has achieved her goal.
