The Apple TV Plus series Ted Lasso, starring Jason Sudeikis, concluded its third season in March 2023. The creators opted to bring the show to a close with a fulfilling resolution for the characters’ storylines. However, the showrunners haven’t publicly addressed the show’s future, and the ending leaves room for speculation – could a Ted Lasso spin-off or a potential Season 4 be on the horizon?
Here’s everything you need to know about the Apple TV Plus series, Ted Lasso’s potential spin-off, and more.
Is a Ted Lasso spin-off series confirmed to happen?
There has been no official confirmation of a Ted Lasso spin-off series at this time.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, in November 2023, Hannah Waddingham revealed she didn’t hear anything regarding a spin-off. She said, “Everyone keeps asking this, but no, there’s been no word of a spinoff at all, and I have made it quite clear that unless Ted was in it… I can’t imagine really a world where Rebecca exists without Ted because they are each other’s inspiration.”
However, Channing Dungey, who is the Warner Bros Television Group, had something else to say. According to Deadline, Dungey said, “I think Jason Sudeikis is open to the idea, but I think he wants to have the right idea, which I appreciate, we at Warner Bros appreciate, Apple appreciates.”
Continuing further, “Because it’s the sort of thing where you don’t want to go do more just for the sake of more, you want to go do more because you actually have something to say, you have a story that you want to tell. We’ll see what happens.”
Will there be a Ted Lasso Season 4 with Jason Sudeikis returning?
There is no official word on Jason Sudeikis’ return as the lead in a possible season 4 of Ted Lasso.
Jason Sudeikis, the show’s lead and co-creator, has acknowledged the possibility of a season 4, though remaining tight-lipped. In a March 2023 interview with Deadline, Sudeikis addressed the prospect of spin-offs. He stated, “Yeah, I think that we’ve set the table for all sorts of folks…to get to watch the further telling of these stories.”
On the other hand, Declan Lowney, who is the helmer of the series gave fans a glimmer of hope for a potential return. He said, “Everybody knew (Ted Lasson Season 3) was the end, but it’s also the end for now. It’s going to be two or three years before anything happens — if anything happens,” as per The Hollywood Reporter.
While there’s been no official announcement regarding a fourth season or a spin-off, both creators and actors have expressed a strong desire to revisit the world of Ted Lasso.
