The Boys Season 4 Episode 4: Are Butcher’s New Powers Permanent?

The Boys Season 4 Episode 4 offered a brief tease of Billy Butcher seemingly showcasing new powers. As such, fans have been curious to learn more about these powers and if they are permanent. Additionally, there’s interest in whether Butcher has powers in The Boys comics or not.

Is Butcher a Supe now? Does he have powers in the comics? Let’s delve in!

Does Butcher get new and permanent powers in The Boys Season 4?

Billy Butcher does seem to have new powers as teased in The Boys Season 4 Episode 4. However, it remains unknown whether they are permanent or not.

In Season 4 Episode 4, Butcher confronts Ezekiel after the latter subdues Frenchie. When Ezekiel entraps Butcher with his long arms and starts choking him, the worm inside Butcher’s head starts crawling around his brain. At the same time, Butcher sees a vision of Becca urging him not to give up. The Boys leader then blacks out. Upon waking up, he sees that Ezekiel has been brutally murdered and mutilated. When Mother’s Milk asks Butcher what happened, he replies that he cannot recall.

With the blackout and the worm crawling out of his mouth to protect him, it is implied that Butcher has developed some superpowers. It is highly evident from the violently sticky sounds heard after Butcher’s blackout that these powers helped him survive the encounter with Ezekiel.

As for how Butcher got his new powers, it is likely via his Compound V injection. Butcher meets Hughie and tells him that four months ago he took some Compound V from Frenchie’s desk and injected it into his system with hopes of curing his tumor diagnosis. However, he claims that he did not become a Supe. He supports this narrative saying he was unaware of the outcome of his fight with Ezekiel. He also suggests that the cure was unsuccessful, with his progressing tumor symptoms supporting the claim.

Does Butcher have powers in The Boys comics?

Yes, Butcher gets powers in The Boys comics after taking Compound V.

However, in the comics, Butcher never uses Temp V, and as a result does not get a tumor like he does in the show. After taking Compound V, Butcher musters up superhuman strength and durability. This is what allows him to go toe-to-toe with and beat Supes like Soldier Boy, Stormfront, and Crimson Countess.
