The Boys Season 4: Does Hughie’s Dad Die?

Because of the cliffhanger ending of The Boys Season 4 Episode 4, fans want to know whether Hughie’s dad dies in the show. Hughie’s father, Hugh Campbell Sr., is portrayed by Simon Pegg, who was the inspiration behind the comics’ version of Hughie.

In season 4, the audience learns that Hugh has suffered a stroke at some point and is currently in a coma. His doctors tell his son that the chances of his survival and waking up are rather low. Hughie understandably struggles to accept this. Things become further complicated when his mother, Daphne, reappears years after she left him and Hugh and announces that her former husband has given her medical power of attorney.

In episode 4, Hughie and Daphne face a big choice after Hugh’s doctors inform them that they want to remove his feeding tubes. If you are wondering whether Hugh dies in season 4, we got you covered.

Does Hughie’s dad die in The Boys Season 4?

No, Hughie’s dad doesn’t die in The Boys Season 4.

This season, Hughie faces new challenges and revelations and often acts out in frustration. If some of that internal conflict stems from his increasing lack of self-esteem for not having any powers, the rest can be attributed to his father’s health.

After learning that his father’s condition meets the criteria of brain death, Hughie reacts angrily. Daphne tries to comfort him by saying that removing the feeding tubes might be the most humane thing to do, but he doesn’t listen. Hughie reaches out to A-Train and convinces him to get a vial of Compound V from Homelander’s apartment.

However, after having a conversation with Butcher, Hughie finally comes to terms with his father’s impending death. This is when things take an unexpected turn. Daphne seemingly gets the vial some way and administers Compound V to Hugh, reviving him.

While Hugh is alive, he is definitely not out of danger. The effects of Compound V can be wildly unpredictable. Hugh can fully recover and gain a special ability. Alternatively, he can suffer a fate much worse than death.
