Bridgerton’s Gender Swap: Are Eloise & Benedict’s Love Interests Being Changed?

The Bridgerton Season 3 finale introduced a groundbreaking change by gender-swapping Francesca’s future husband from the books, Michael Stirling, to Michaela Stirling. This bold move suggests a potential queer love story for Francesca in upcoming seasons. This shift has sparked speculation among fans: could Eloise and Benedict Bridgerton experience similar changes to their romantic partners?

In this article, we will discuss whether Netflix’s hit show is also gender-swapping the love interests of Eloise and Benedict Bridgerton.

Is Bridgerton gender-swapping who Benedict and Eloise marry?

In an interview with Pride, Bridgerton showrunner Jess Brownell discussed her desire to incorporate more queer storylines into the popular Netflix series. She also addressed the possibility of gender-swapping the partners of Benedict and Eloise Bridgerton.

In a conversation with TVLine, Jess Brownell revealed that Benedict Bridgerton is depicted as pansexual in the series, a departure from Julia Quinn’s novels. Brownell explained, “Benedict is someone who is interested in energy and spirit, not convention or labels. He sees a person as a person.” Although Season 3 concluded his throuple storyline with Tilly and Paul, Brownell indicated plans to further explore Benedict’s sexual fluidity.

In a same discussion with TVLine, Jess Brownell highlighted that many see Eloise as queer. But the series aims to showcase a female character who prioritizes intellectual pursuits over romance. Brownell stressed that Eloise isn’t simply waiting for the right partner and she genuinely values her intellectual interests more. Brownell said, “Eloise is on a path of finding her place in a society that doesn’t make a lot of room for women who care more about ideas than they do love.”

Julia Quinn’s book “An Offer from a Gentleman” follows Benedict Bridgerton’s love story with Sophie Beckett, an Earl’s daughter. Meanwhile, “To Sir Phillip, With Love” focuses on Eloise Bridgerton’s romance with Sir Phillip Crane. Quinn recently confirmed in an interview with PEOPLE that the book for Season 4 of the series has been chosen. However, she cannot reveal it, leaving fans guessing. However, it’s likely to be either Benedict’s or Eloise’s story.
