House of the Dragon Season 2 introduces viewers to Alyn of Hull. He is a sailor in the Velaryon fleet who meets Corlys Velaryon when the Lord of Driftmark and Velaryon patriarch attempt to secure Rhaenyra Targaryen’s throne. However, fans are wondering whether Alyn bears any connection or is related to House Velaryon in any way.
So does Alyn of Hull have any familial connection to House Velaryon? Here is your answer.
Is Alyn of Hull related to Laenor Velaryon in House of the Dragon?
It is currently unknown if Alyn of Hull is related to Laenor Velaryon in the House of the Dragon TV show. This is because the Season 2 premiere does not explicitly explore such a connection. Albeit, it could likely be explored in a future episode.
However, Goerge R.R. Martin’s books The World of Ice & Fire, Fire & Blood, The Rise of the Dragon, The Princess and the Queen, A Feast For Crows, and A Dance With Dragons present a different take. In them, the two individuals rumored to be Alyn and his brother Addam’s father are Laenor Velaryon and Corlys Velaryon.
Alyn and Addam are first told by their mother Marilda of Hull, that their father is Sir Laenor Velaryon. Despite the fact that Alyn and Addam resemble Laenor, many people are skeptical of Marilda’s claim. This is because they are aware of Laenor’s preference for men. Furthermore, he visited Marilda at her workplace at the shipyard.
Later on, Targaryen court fool and dwarf Mushroom claims Alyn and Addam to actually be the sons of Laenor’s father Corlys Velaryon. Also, Coryls kept them away in order to not upset his wife, Rhaenys Targaryen, who was known for her intense temper.
Per ScreenRant, it is very likely that Corlys and not Laenor is Alyn and Addam’s father in the House of the Dragon series. This is because Laenor looks to be the same age as Alyn and Addam. But in the books, he is much older than them. Besides, Alyn and Addam are around the age of Rhaenyra and Daemon Targaryen’s children.
Thus, it is yet unconfirmed if Alyn of Hull has a relationship with House Velaryon in House of the Dragon Season 2. That said, viewers shall likely gain more clarity on the same as his character arc progresses over the season.
