What Happened to Matt Rife? Comedian Health Condition Explained

Fans are curious about comedian Matt Rife‘s health after he scrapped a two-set comedy routine at Indiana University’s Auditorium in Bloomington, Indiana, on Wednesday, May 29, at the last minute. Rife is most well known for his Netflix comedy special Natural Selection, which premiered in 2023 and garnered him widespread attention. Many fans are now concerned after he decided not to perform in Indiana.

Here are the reasons why Matt Rife dropped out from his tour dates.

Why did Matt Rife cancel the tour last minute?

According to People magazine and an Instagram post by the official handle of Indiana University’s Auditorium, comedian Matt Rife canceled his tour dates at the last minute because of an “unexpected medical emergency.”

On X (previously known as Twitter), Rife apologized to his fans for what happened before, stating that a “last-minute medical emergency” had forced him to change the May 29 shows’ dates again. “I’ve been doing 40+ shows a month for a year and [a] half and never had to do something like this, I’m so so sorry, I hope you understand and i love you so much,” he added. These performances were originally supposed to happen in February 2024 but were postponed.

In a follow-up post, the comedian clarified that they were working on refunding the people who had bought tickets. In the above-mentioned Instagram post, the venue explained that the full refund would be made within 30 days.

What are Matt Rife’s health concerns?

In a notice sent to the ticketholders, the auditorium revealed that Rife “experienced extreme exhaustion symptoms and nearly fainted heading to the venue.” The notice further stated that doctors had advised the Wild ‘n Out star “to take immediate time off from touring for two weeks.” (via Chicago Sun Times)

Rife’s upcoming performances in Chicago and Nashville have also been postponed. The ones in the Windy City will now happen on December 26, 27, 29, and 30, while the rescheduled dates for the Nashville appearance are still being worked out. In the notice, fans who will not attend the routines on the new dates are requested to collect their refunds from where they bought their tickets.
