Minecraft Animated Series’ release date could arrive by 2025 at the earliest.
In late May 2024, Netflix announced that it was developing a CGI-animated series based on Minecraft, the popular sandbox game, along with the company behind the said game, Mojang Studios. The Canada-based animation studio WildBrain is developing the series. Their previous works include Netflix projects Ninjago: Dragons Rising, Sonic Prime, and Carmen Sandiego. The Minecraft Animated Series will likely premiere in 2025 at the earliest.
Created by Markus “Notch” Persson using the Java programming language, Minecraft is an immersive 3D sandbox game where the players don’t have set tasks to perform. Instead, they are free to venture anywhere on the limitless, blocky, and pixelated terrain. As of 2023, there are roughly 130 million active users of Minecraft.
The Netflix series isn’t the only Minecraft project currently in development. The Minecraft Movie, starring Jack Black and Jason Momoa, is slated to come out in theaters on April 4, 2025
