South Indian Movies Releasing in June 2024: Kalki 2898 AD, Raayan & More

The South Indian film industry has taken the world by storm. While Malayalam cinema is being praised for its unique content, Telugu and Tamil cinemas are known for their mass action flicks. The coming month of June 2024 will be a good one for all movie enthusiasts.

From Prabhas and Dhanush to Vikram, several stars from the South Indian film industry will be seen shining on the silver screens. Many awaited South Indian movies are releasing in the coming four weeks and have fans invested completely.

Dhanush’s Raayan to Prabhas’ Kalki 2898 AD, the below-mentioned list has highly anticipated movies.

Satyabhama

Kajal Aggarwal’s awaited movie Satyabhama is all set to arrive in the theaters. The movie has been delayed previously, but it will be available to catch in the theaters in a few days. In the film, Agarwal plays the role of a dedicated police officer who takes on a case that touches her personally. Throughout the case, she has to face many hurdles.

The movie marks Kajal Aggarwal’s 60 project. It is written and directed by Suman Chikkala. The movie will be released on June 7, 2024.

Raayan

Apart from leading the film, Tamil star Dhanush is also returning to the director’s chair in the upcoming movie Raayan. One of the most anticipated films of the year, it will feature an ensemble cast that includes SJ Suryah, Sundeep Kishan, Kalidas Jayaram, Selvaraghavan, Prakash Raj, Dushara Vijayan, Aparna Balamurali, and more. Sun Pictures has bankrolled the film, while AR Rahman has composed its music.

Raayan allegedly follows the story of a young man who trains to avenge the murder of his family. During his quest to seek revenge, he faces the criminal underworld.

The action thriller is all set to hit the theaters on June 13.

Double iSmart

Following Liger’s massive failure, Puri Jagannadh is retiring with a new star-studded flick, Double iSmart. The movie marks the official sequel to his 2019 film iSmart Shankar. Telugu star Ram Pothineni is all set to reprise his dashing role and fight the goons in the action drama. Besides Pothineni, Kavya Thapar is playing the leading lady. Moreover, Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt has been roped in to portray the lead antagonist.

For the unversed, iSmart Shankar’s story revolves around “a contract killer who is on the run after killing a politician. When Arun, a cop investigating the case, tries to nab Shankar, the cop gets killed, and his memory gets transferred to Shankar. Will Shankar be able to unveil the mystery behind this?”

Double iSmart will have plenty of action sequences, per its teaser. The movie is set to arrive in the theaters on June 14.

Thangalan

Chiyaan Vikram is all set to play a never-seen-before role in the upcoming movie Thangalaan. Pa Ranjith is directing the film and has also contributed to its writing process. Bankrolled by Jio Studios, Studio Green, and Neelam Productions, the movie is one of the most awaited South Indian movies.

Touted to be a period drama, the movie revolves around India’s freedom struggle. It is based on true events that happened in the Kolar Gold Fields.

Malavika Mohanan is the female lead of the film, while Paravathy Thiruvothu, Pasupathy, Daniel Caltagirone, Harikrishnan Anbudurai, and others play supporting characters. The movie is expected to be released in the coming month.

Kalki 2898 AD

Kalki 2898 AD is the first mythological sci-fi dystopian film of India. It is based on the events of Mahabharat but has a unique twist to it. Directed by Nag Ashwin, the movie is among the most expensive films in India.

Prabhas plays Bhairava’s lead role in the film, while Deepika Padukone is expected to portray an incarnation of Goddess Laxmi. Amitabh Bachchan is portraying the role of the immortal Ashwatthama. Tamil star Kamal Haasan has an extended cameo in the movie, while Disha Patani plays a supporting character. More stars from different industries are expected to have special appearances in the film.

During a recent chat with Deadline, Prabhas threw light on the movie’s massive budget. He said, “The whole film is made for international [audiences]. That’s why it’s the highest budget and we’ve got the best actors in the country.”

So far, the makers have revealed several details about the movie. The latest one was the teaser of Bujji, a unique car with an installed AI assistant. Moreover, Kalki 2898 AD director Nag Ashwin also opened up about the era on which the movie is based. He reportedly teased, “Our film starts in Mahabharat, and it ends in 2898. That’s the title of the film; it’s called Kalki 2898 AD. It spans 6,000 years of distance and time.”

“So trying to create worlds that are there here, imagining what it could be like, still keeping it Indian and not make it look like a Blade Runner,” he added.

Kalki 2898 AD is slated to be released worldwide on June 27, 2024.
