Glen Powell: Is He Playing Batman in James Gunn’s DCU?

Many fans are asking if Glen Powell is playing Batman in James Gunn’s DCU. The Anyone But You star is the latest Hollywood name to throw his hat in the ring for the role of Gunn’s Caped Crusader after actors like Alan Ritchson and Jake Gyllenhaal. Given Batman’s iconic pop-culture status, it’s not surprising that many actors are vying for the role.

So is Glen Powell donning Batman’s cape and cowl for the DCU? Here is your answer.

Has Glen Powell been cast as Batman in James Gunn’s DCU?

No, Glen Powell has not been cast as Batman in James Gunn’s DCU. However, he has expressed interest in the role.

Glen Powell said in a recent GQ Magazine interview that he is uninterested in playing superheroes, except Batman. “I was always a Batman guy. I would have a wild take on Batman. It definitely would not be like a Matt Reeves tone – it’d probably be closer to Keaton,” he said.

Powell previously cameoed in Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises. He is credited as Trader #1, whose head Bane smashes on a computer table.

James Gunn previously mentioned in a February 18, 2023, post on X (formerly Twitter) that his Batman “might be a couple years older” than his Superman. Although he did not reveal the exact age of the character, Gunn did mention that DCU’s Superman would be “younger than in his forties.”

Since Glen Powell is currently 35 years old, he fits the bill of being several years older than Gunn’s Superman. David Corenswet, the DCU’s Superman, is 30 years old.

Powell is also a popular fan cast for the role of Hal Jordan aka Green Lantern in the DCU. The actor reacted to the fan cast in a 2023 Entertainment Weekly interview, saying it was humbling to be considered, even though he admitted to not being a huge comic book fan.
