While many fans have expressed their interest in seeing the core cast of the current Star Trek movies reprise their roles, many have also expressed their interest in seeing Chris Hemsworth reprising his role as George Kirk in the next film. At one time, Paramount had plans for Star Trek 4 to come out in December 2023, but updates about its production remain scarce.
Here’s everything that’s currently known about whether Star Trek 4 will feature Chris Hemsworth.
Will Chris Hemsworth return as George Kirk in Star Trek 4?
There is no confirmation yet about Chris Hemsworth’s return as George Kirk in Star Trek 4.
Hemsworth’s return to the role of George Kirk is not an impossibility when considering that the Star Trek franchise is no stranger to using time travel in its stories, as well as many other methods that can be used for character resurrection. However, his presence cannot be confirmed until more details about the film come out. The fourth film of the series which initially had a December 2023 release date is still in its early stages of production. According to ScreenRant, in 2022, Paramount Pictures’ removed it from their schedule making it uncertain whether the movie will ever see the light of day. However, The Hollywood Reporter recently confirmed that Simon Kinberg, who has been a longtime producer of the X-Men movies, has held talks with the studio about producing a new Star Trek film.
Toby Haynes who previously worked on the Star Wars series Andor will be directing, and Seth Grahame-Smith working on the script. Despite a lack of a release date, Paramount is reportedly hoping to get the film into theaters in 2025 and J.J. Abrams is attached as a producer.
While Chris Hemsworth’s appearance in the film as Captain James T. Kirk’s father, Lt. Commander George Kirk, may or may not happen, fans should be happy to know that the film is in the works.
