On October 28, 2023, the world was shocked by the news of Friends actor Matthew Perry‘s death. Six months later, an update regarding Perry’s cause of death has come out. The Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) reportedly initiated a joint investigation to revisit Matthew Perry’s investigation case.
Here’s everything you need to know about the recent investigation updates regarding Matthew Perry’s death.
What did Matthew Perry die from?
Matthew Perry’s death occurred due to the acute effects of the anesthetic ketamine, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
His autopsy report states, “At the high levels of ketamine found in his postmortem blood specimens, the main lethal effects would be from both cardiovascular overstimulation and respiratory depression.”
The report further reads, “The ketamine in his system at death could not be from that infusion therapy since ketamine’s half-life is three to four hours or less.”
It also suggests that the infusion therapy was not the cause of death and that it had to be a dosage of ketamine taken in a different way. This directed the authorities to look deeper into the matter as they tried to track down from where and how exactly Matthew Perry got the ketamine. It is to be noted that the actor was undergoing ketamine infusion treatment in his battle with depression and anxiety.
According to CBS, the LAPD report states that Perry’s assistant found the actor face down in a hot tub. Soon after, the police pronounced him dead at 4:17 P.M.
