Having secretly used the name Lady Whistledown for a prolonged period, Penelope revealed many secrets about several important personalities to the general public. Nevertheless, one of her last acts as the secretive author in Season 2 ended up becoming the very reason behind her fallout with the second Bridgerton daughter.

Here is what Penelope wrote about Eloise, as well as her motivations behind drafting the copy.

What did Penelope write about Eloise in Bridgerton Season 2?

In the second chapter of the series, an inherently inquisitive Eloise makes it her mission to uncover the identity of Lady Whistledown. She also receives encouragement from Queen Charlotte in her pursuit of the hidden journalist. After investigating the paper on which the editorial is printed, she decides to track down the press, where she ultimately meets Theo Sharpe, the printer’s apprentice.

The two, harboring similar ideologies and curiosities, instantly strike up a friendship as a result. However, their union is never considered a possibility due to the massive disparity in their backgrounds. Eventually, the young rebel gives up on her pursuit of the scandalous writer. This leads Queen Charlotte to suspect that Eloise herself could be masquerading as the infamous Lady Whistledown.

In a desperate attempt to save her friend, Penelope decides to write about Eloise’s friendship with Theo and successfully proves that her friend is not responsible for the letters. In the process, Penelope ends up creating a huge scandal and inadvertently harms Eloise’s reputation. The reveal of her association with Theo, a lowly commoner, damages her marriage prospects and ultimately ends the couple’s relationship.

Distraught by the consequences of her actions, Penelope gives up writing for good. However, she mistakenly admits her talent for picking up gossip to Eloise, which leads her to the truth about Lady Whistledown’s identity.

Eloise is heartbroken by the revelation and understandably feels betrayed by her best friend. Consequently, their relationship is irreparably altered, a theme that can be seen quite prominently in Season 3.
