New The Office Series Reboot: Why Is Steve Carell Not in It?

At the premiere of his upcoming movie IF, Steve Carell revealed his thoughts on returning for the reboot of The Office, which will soon begin filming. Carell played the lead character, Michael Scott, in the original series of the long-running American sitcom for seven seasons. When asked if he would make an appearance in the reboot, Carell had a clear and straightforward answer.

While speaking about the reboot of The Office, Steve Carell stated that he will be watching the show but definitely “won’t be showing up.” Revealing the reason, Carell said, “It’s just a new thing and there’s really no reason for my character to show up in something like that, but I’m excited about it, it sounds like a great conceit.”

He further praised Domhnall Gleeson, who will be playing one of the leads in the new reboot series. “I worked with Domhnall Gleeson…I did The Patient with him, he’s an excellent actor and a super nice guy so I think it’ll be great,” Carell said, adding that the show is “for sure” in good hands.

This tells fans that there seem to be no plans for Michael Scott to make an appearance on the show.

The untitled reboot will be a mockumentary series taking place in the same universe as The Office. Its creators are Greg Daniels and Michael Koman. Additionally, Sabrina Impacciatore will play a lead role in the reboot alongside Domhnall Gleeson.
