Fans are wondering about Kelly Clarkson’s recent weight loss and whether it was caused by a medication called Ozempic. The winner of the inaugural season of American Idol, Kelly Clarkson has become one of the biggest pop stars of her generation, with 25 million albums sold worldwide and three Grammy Award wins. She now hosts The Kelly Clarkson Show but has been under the spotlight since she was around 20 years old.
After Clarkson lost a large amount of weight recently, rumors began circulating that she used Ozempic. Here’s everything you need to know.
Kelly Clarkson weight loss rumors explained
Clarkson’s weight loss has been the subject of speculation for months. In May 2024, she finally addressed them on The Kelly Clarkson Show, stating that she did not use Ozempic but a different drug. Originally developed as a treatment for type 2 diabetes, Ozempic has found a completely different market as a weight-loss drug in the world of glamor.
On the episode that aired on May 13, the Underneath the Tree singer revealed, “My doctor chased me for like two years and I was like, ‘No, I’m afraid of it. I already have thyroid problems.’ Everybody thinks it [is] Ozempic. It’s not.”
Clarkson continued, “It’s something else…but it’s something that aids in helping break down the sugar — obviously my body doesn’t do it right.”
While Clarkson did not disclose what the drug was, it evidently had a positive impact on her. She shared with her audience that her weight was 203 pounds at one point.
Clarkson also revealed that she resolved to lose weight after watching one of her recent performances on TV and realizing how much she has changed. In January 2024, she told People that her relocation to New York City played an important role in starting her weight loss journey.
