With the summer movie season kicking off, many are wondering about the Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga box office prediction. How much is the Mad Max prequel expected to make and will it be a success? Here’s everything you need to know about its box office estimates.
How much is Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga predicted to make at the box office?
Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is reported to start strong and perform well throughout the Memorial Day weekend from May 24-27, 2024. It’s expected to open in line with Mad Max: Fury Road, which earned $45 million in its first three days.
As per Deadline, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga is expected to bring in somewhere between $40 and $50 million on its domestic opening. Meanwhile, the predictions for worldwide numbers aren’t in yet. The prequel will directly compete with The Garfield Movie, which is reported to open with $35 million.
Will Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga flop or succeed?
While Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga’s opening box office prediction looks strong, its reported budget could make the numbers seem weak. Nonetheless, the film could still turn a profit for Warner Bros. Discovery as the studio did not have to spend the entire budget out of its own pockets.
Earlier, Deadline reported that Furiosa became the biggest movie produced in Australia, with a budget of $233 million. However, its budget got a financial boost of $135 million (A$175 million) from the Federal and New South Wales Governments of Australia. So, the studio technically spent around $98 million itself.
George Miller’s Mad Max: Fury Road was produced on a $150 million budget and turned in $380 million worldwide. With an opening similar to Fury Road, Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga could also post numbers parallel to its predecessor at the worldwide box office.
The $233 million expenditure was highly justified by Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga’s trailers. While it could prove to be expensive, the studio can still profit if the film performs similarly to Fury Road. After all, it technically only needs to make back the $98 million that Warner Bros. Discovery spent on its production, and the additional sum on marketing, which is highly possible.
