Many fans are curious if there is a Netflix anime adaptation of Sakamoto Days. A lot of manga readers enjoy this action and comedy series about a former hitman, so it would seem like a natural fit for the streaming service, in many respects. Is Sakamoto Days getting an anime?

There were rumors in May 2024 about Netflix picking up Sakamoto Days for an anime adaptation. These rumors were going around on X (formerly Twitter) after the License Global May 2024 issue listed Sakamoto Days as one of the upcoming Netflix releases for 2024. However, since May 22, Sakamoto Days is no longer on the list in License Global’s article.
News of the seemingly accidental leak spread throughout the anime community. Many fans were expressing their disappointment towards Netflix, considering how previous anime adaptations have turned out under their service. Fans were also suspicious since there haven’t been any teaser visuals or trailers, and we’re almost halfway into 2024. The teaser trailer has now been released. However, fan opinions remain mixed and there’s still no confirmation on whether Netflix is distributing the series.
Sakamoto Days is a shonen manga by Yuto Suzuki. Shueisha began serializing the manga in their Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in November 2020. There are currently 16 volumes available in Japanese. Meanwhile, Viz Media is the North American publisher of the series. There are 11 volumes available in English. Volume 12 is scheduled for release on June 4 and it is available for pre-order on the Viz Media website.
When is the Sakamoto Days anime release date?
The Sakamoto Days anime is coming out in January 2025.
TMS Entertainment is producing the adaptation. Some of their works include Fruits Basket (2019), Dr. Stone, and Detective Conan. Masaki Watanabe (Bartender) is directing, while Taku Kishimoto (Blue Lock) is handling the series composition. Yo Moriyama (Attack on Titan) is doing the character designs. Tomokazu Sugita, who plays Gintoki Sakata in Gintama, is voicing Taro Sakamoto.
