It has been over eight years since The Nice Guys was released to the public. Since then, fans of the Shane Black-directed action buddy comedy have been wondering whether a sequel was on its way and if The Nice Guys 2 had a release date.
Here’s all we know about The Nice Guys 2 and whether or not it’s coming out.
Is there a The Nice Guys 2 release date?
There is no The Nice Guys 2 release date as it is not confirmed to happen.
In a recent interview with Comicbook, promoting his new movie The Fall Guy, Ryan Gosling when asked about why The Nice Guys 2 did not happen, claimed that Angry Birds overtaking them at the box office was the main reason the movie did not get a sequel. He said “So much of a sequel, I think, is decided by the opening weekend of a movie, and we opened up against Angry Birds, So Angry Birds just, just destroyed us. Angry Birds got a sequel.”
Before this, there has been chatter about The Nice Guys 2, back in 2023, in a KFC Radio podcast appearance, Russell Crowe revealed that he and Ryan Gosling came up with a sequel title and what it could be about. He said “We wanted to call it Nice Guys: The Mexican Detectives. Bang! It’s me & Ryan, somehow we’ve got to pretend we’re Mexican detectives.”
Also, Shane Black revealed in a 2022 /Film interview that there were plans to spin off The Nice Guys concept into a TV show but it did not work out saying “We tried it as a TV show, We caught the characters, but the plot was totally different. It was set in present day, and no one wanted to buy it. We had to look elsewhere.”
Since The Nice Guys 2 has not been confirmed to happen or is unlikely to happen anytime soon, there are no cast members.
Why The Nice Guys 2 might not be happening anytime soon
The Nice Guys 2 probably isn’t coming out because as mentioned above, plans for a sequel fell through after the film was overwhelmed by The Angry Birds Movie at the box office.
The Nice Guys is currently streaming on Apple TV Plus. Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe star in the lead roles, alongside a supporting cast that includes Angourie Rice, Margaret Qualley, Matt Bomer, Beau Knapp, Keith David, Yaya DaCosta, Kim Basinger, Gary Weeks, and Hannibal Buress.
