The Spider Within Timeline: When Does A Spider-Verse Story Take Place?

Fans are curious about the timeline placement of the new short film The Spider Within: A Spider-Verse Story. The new release is part of Sony’s recent animated Spider-Verse film universe. Here is all you need to know.

When does The Spider Within: A Spider-Verse Story take place in the Spider-Verse timeline?

The Spider Within: A Spider-Verse Story reportedly takes place between the events of Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse.

As far as the narrative of the film is concerned, it revolves around Miles Morales. As per Deadline, Miles is shown suffering from an anxiety attack due to being overwhelmed by schoolwork, exams, and relationships.

Deadline further states that the story will see Miles Morales’ fears manifest in the form of a dark figure representing his alter ego. There will also be an imaginary manifestation of spiders in his bedroom.

The story, however, ends on a light note as Miles turns to his father Jeff Morales. The short film will also explore the importance of strong father-son bonds through Miles and Jeff’s relationship.

Given the short film’s plot, it is very likely set not long after Into the Spider-Verse as it will focus on a Miles who has only just started to navigate his dual life as Spider-Man.

According to Variety, the release of The Spider Within: A Spider-Verse Story is in collaboration with the Kevin Love Fund (KLF) as part of its “mental health-focused lesson plan.”

The Spider Within: A Spider-Verse Story is directed by Jarelle Dampier and written by Khaila Amazon. Shameik Moore and Brian Tyree Henry reprise their roles of Miles and Jefferson from the Spider-Verse films.

The film was created from Sony Pictures Imageworks through Sony’s LENS program.
