Written and directed by Joel Souza, Rust is an upcoming Western film based on a story by Alec Baldwin. Rust Movie could arrive sometime in 2024 or later.
In October 2021, cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and director Joel Souza were shot on the film’s New Mexico set. Hutchins was announced dead following her arrival at the University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque. Souza survived the incident and left a local hospital the following day.
In another incident, a brown recluse spider bit lamp operator and pipe rigger Jason Miller. The latter had to go through emergency surgery in November 2021.
Production for Rust Movie originally started in New Mexico in early October 2021. It came to an immediate halt after the shooting incident. The project eventually resumed filming in April 2023 and ended a month later. Rust movie will likely come out sometime in 2024 or later.

Jensen Ackles was originally set to portray the role of Hopkins’ character but he left production reportedly due to a scheduling conflict. Moreover, Brady Noon was originally cast to portray Lucas Hollister but he also reportedly decided to leave the production.

Rust Movie is anticipated to come out in theaters sometime in 2024 or later.
This is because The Avenue, which has the distribution rights, released several of their previous projects in theaters. However, given the tragic incident mentioned above and the controversies that followed, the filmmakers might opt for an exclusive digital or streaming release.
