Why Was Sex/Life Canceled & Not Renewed by Netflix?

Viewers of Sex/Life have often wondered why the show was canceled and not renewed after two seasons. Here is why the show was canceled and not renewed by Netflix.

Why was Sex/Life canceled by Netflix?

Sex/Life was canceled by Netflix as the streaming platform believed that the show was brought to a natural conclusion after two seasons.

As per a 2023 Deadline report, Sex/Life was canceled after two seasons because the second season had brought the story of the show to a close, a Netflix spokesperson revealed. The storylines for key characters were wrapped and their relationships reached a happy conclusion. The spokesperson further stated Netflix was proud of the show and the work put into it by the producers, cast, and crew.

Moreover, in an appearance on the Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast, the show’s star Sarah Shahi openly discussed her dissatisfaction with the second season of Sex/Life and claimed she did not get much support while working on it compared to the first season. She said:

“I definitely did not have the support that I did the first season. I’m not going to put it [the show] down, but I definitely did not have the support that I did the first season from the people involved in the show.”

Just days after this statement, a Netflix spokesperson confirmed that Sex/Life was canceled after two seasons.

In the podcast, Shahi also expressed disappointment in not getting to work with Demos, her real-life boyfriend, whose character Brad had a reduced role in Season 2 despite Shahi’s character Billie ending up with him at the end of the series.

Sex/Life, which ran for two seasons between June 2021 and March 2023, showcases a love triangle between Sarah Shahi’s Billie Connelly, Billie’s husband Cooper (Mike Vogel), and Billie’s ex-boyfriend Brad (Adam Demos).
