Where are the Furious 5 in Kung Fu Panda 4?
The Furious Five were absent from Kung Fu Panda 4 as they were all on separate missions.
The likes of Tigress voiced by Angelina Jolie, Monkey by Jackie Chan, Crane by David Cross, Viper by Lucy Liu, and Mantis by Seth Rogen made their debut alongside Po in the first film. Since then, they’ve all played crucial parts in the second and third installments. So, fans were left asking about them when they didn’t show up in the trailers.
But the movie starts by confirming that all the members of the Furious Five were away on separate missions. There is a surprise involving them at the very end during the credits. But they don’t show up for the entire film, and fans wish to know why that is the case.
Why are the Furious 5 missing in Kung Fu Panda 4?
The Furious Five were left out of Kung Fu Panda 4 to expand the world and introduce new characters.
In an interview with The Direct, Kung Fu Panda 4 director Mike Mitchell revealed why the decision to move on without Tigress and Co. was made. He said:
“Well, you know, it’s a part four, and we wanted to expand the world, and we wanted to take Po out of the Valley of Peace for the first time. And already, we’re inheriting a great cast. Dustin Hoffman, as Shifu, has to come along.“
He continued:
“Definitely, James Hong, as his dad, Mr. Ping, he’s a must In my mind. I’m a super fan. He’s got to be there. And then Bryan Cranston is such a great combo platter as the new dad that was introduced as Li in the last film. So it starts to get really crowded.”
Giving the Furious Five significant story arcs would have meant less room to grow the new ones. Furthermore, Angelina Jolie, Jackie Chan, and the others are all big-name actors. So, by not bringing them back in huge roles, the movie was able to allot its limited budget to the new characters and the rest of the production.
But now with new characters being established, Part 5 could work with an ensemble cast that also brings back the Furious Five. It’ll be interesting to see what the future holds.
