Based on the namesake manga series written and illustrated by Shinichi Fukuda, My Dress-Up Darling is a romantic comedy slice-of-life anime TV show. The plot revolves around high school students Wakana Gojo and Marin Kitagawa. Gojo is a shy boy who loves making hina dolls, whereas Kitagawa is a typical gyaru or gal. After learning about Gojo’s talent for sewing, Kitagawa convinces him to make dresses for her cosplays. As the series progresses, Kitagawa realizes that she is falling for Gojo. The first season aired in Japan between January 9, 2022, and March 27, 2022. If you are wondering whether there will be a season 2, this is what we have discovered.
Here’s all the My Dress-Up Darling Season 2 release date information we know so far, and all the details on when it is coming out.
Is there a My Dress-Up Darling Season 2 release date?
My Dress-Up Darling Season 2 could arrive by late 2024 at the earliest.
In September 2022, about six months after the final episode of season 1 aired, My Dress-Up Darling was greenlit for season 2 or a sequel series. However, not much information has come out about it since then. Fukuda’s manga series is currently ongoing and has 12 volumes as of March 2024. Season 1 is adapted up to chapter 39 (volume 5), so there is plenty of material available for season 2 to go into production.
It’s not unusual for anime shows to have several years of intermediate periods between seasons. After all, there is no worry about actors growing older. This seems to be changing in recent years with the astronomical success of Attack on Titan, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, and My Hero Academia. These days, the studios regularly aim to release a new season of a given anime every year. My Dress-Up Darling is a popular anime and manga, so, understandably, the long hiatus has left the fans baffled. If season 2 is currently in production, it can optimistically come out in late 2024 at the earliest.
This date is an estimation based on the information we have at the time of this writing.
The voice cast includes Shōya Ishige as Wakana Gojo, Hina Suguta as Marin Kitagawa, Atsumi Tanezaki as Sajuna Inui, Hina Yōmiya as Shinju Inui, Misako Tomioka as Narrator, and more.
Where is My Dress-Up Darling Season 2 coming out?
My Dress-Up Darling Season 2 is anticipated to come out on Tokyo MX, BS11, and other networks in late 2024 at the earliest.
This is because season 1 aired in Japan on these networks. ComingSoon will provide an update when there is an official announcement about the season 2 release date.
The official synopsis for My Dress-Up Darling reads:
“Wakana Gojo is a high school boy who wants to become a kashirashi–a master craftsman who makes traditional Japanese Hina dolls. Though he’s gung-ho about the craft, he knows nothing about the latest trends, and has a hard time fitting in with his class. The popular kids–especially one girl, Marin Kitagawa–seem like they live in a completely different world. That all changes one day, when she shares an unexpected secret with him, and their completely different worlds collide.”
