Taylor Swift is reportedly related to the legendary American poet Emily Dickinson.
Per TODAY, the 34-year-old “Bad Blood” singer was found to be related to the American poet from the 1800s, Emily Elizabeth Dickinson by the genealogy company, Ancestry. The company shared the following with TODAY:
“Swift and Dickinson both descend from a 17th-century English immigrant (Swift’s 9th great-grandfather and Dickinson’s 6th great-grandfather who was an early settler of Windsor, Connecticut).”
Ancestry also stated:
“Taylor Swift’s ancestors remained in Connecticut for six generations until her part of the family eventually settled in northwestern Pennsylvania, where they married into the Swift family line.”
So, Swift isn’t the only talented writer in her bloodline!
Are Taylor Swift and Emily Dickinson cousins?
Taylor Swift is Emily Dickinson’s 6th cousin, 3 times removed.
Both of them are extremely popular and important American figures. But this connection between them has surprised many. Looking back, it’s quite interesting that Swift referenced the poet while receiving the Songwriter-Artist of the Decade Award from the Nashville Songwriters Association International. She said on the stage:
“If my lyrics sound like a letter written by Emily Dickinson’s great-grandmother while sewing a lace curtain, that’s me writing in the Quill genre.”
