Fans wish to know the Kung Fu Panda 4 box office prediction and estimates as it is about to hit the theaters. Will Po’s fourth theatrical outing be a flop or will it continue the success of the franchise? Here’s all you need to know about the early projections.
How much is Kung Fu Panda 4 predicted to make at the box office?
Kung Fu Panda 4 is reportedly predicted to open with $30 million to $39 million at the domestic box office.
As per Box Office Pro’s long-range forecast, it will go on to make somewhere around $103 million to $142 million at the end of its domestic box office run after the aforementioned opening weekend.
This opening will be the lowest compared to the previous three outings as the first film opened with $60 million, while KFP2 brought in $47 million and part 3 brought in $41 million. Furthermore, if Kung Fu Panda 4 ends up within Box Office Pro’s final domestic forecast range, then it will also be the lowest-grossing movie in the franchise at the domestic box office.
The following list showcases how much the previous three movies made by the end of their run in North America, as per Box Office Mojo:
- Kung Fu Panda – $215 million
- Kung Fu Panda 2 – $165 million
- Kung Fu Panda 3 – $143 million
But still, lower numbers don’t mean that the fourth outing will not be a success.
Will Kung Fu Panda 4 flop or be a success?
Despite opening in a competitive month, Kung Fu Panda 4 is still poised to be a successful entry.
The film is set to release right after Dune: Part Two, which is already creating a lot of hype. Furthermore, it will be competing with Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire and Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire later in March, which are also predicted to have good box office holds. That’s one of the reasons for KFP4’s lower than before opening.
But it can still be a major success story as Kung Fu Panda is a proven global brand. It got all of its past glory overseas and here’s what the global box office numbers look like for all three previous movies:
- Kung Fu Panda – $632 million
- Kung Fu Panda 2 – $665 million
- Kung Fu Panda 3 – $521 million
All these films went past the $500 million threshold pulling in close to $400 million out of international markets each time. So, Kung Fu Panda 4’s success rides on the overseas numbers, which have always proven to be on the higher end.
