Bucchigiri: Does the MAPPA Anime Have a Manga Adaptation?

Does the Bucchigiri anime by MAPPA have a manga adaptation? The fantasy anime series about delinquents premiered in January 2024. Does MAPPA’s Bucchigiri have a manga?

The anime Bucchigiri?! by MAPPA does not have a manga. The series is an anime original.

Hiroko Utsumi (Banana Fish, Free, Sk8 the Infinity) is the show’s director. Taku Kishimoto (Haikyuu, Blue Lock, Don’t Toy with Me Miss Nagatoro) handles the script and series composition while Takahiro Kagami (Galaxy Express 999: Eternal Fantasy, Psychic Squad, Slam Dunk) did the character design. Michiru Oshima (Bloom Into You, Fullmetal Alchemist, Snow White with the Red Hair) is in charge of the music.

Bucchigiri is available to stream on Crunchyroll. The anime is currently ongoing. For those located in the United States, episodes are out usually every Saturday. With only 12 episodes, the show is estimated to end by the end of March or early April this year.

However, there is another Japanese series with the same title. There is a manga called Bucchigiri created by Yuu Nakahara. The manga was serialized from February 1987 to July 1989 on Weekly Shonen Sunday. This is completely different from the Bucchigiri anime by MAPPA.

The official synopsis of Bucchigiri from Crunchyroll reads:

“Arajin Tomoshibi’s reunion with his old pal Matakara Asamine takes an unexpected turn when they stumble into a brawl with the toughest guys in town. And just when you thought things couldn’t get weirder, a colossal genie decides to drop in. Brace yourself for the ultimate showdown. It’s the clash of the cool and the magical!”
