Created by Hossein Amini and James Watkins and based on the 2008 book McMafia: A Journey Through the Global Criminal Underworld by Misha Glenny, McMafia revolves around Alex Goodman, a man living in London, as he tries to break free of his connection to the Russian mob. Is there a McMafia Season 2 release date?
McMafia Season 2 does not have an official release date, but it might be announced in the future.
In May 2018, BBC officially greenlit the second of McMafia. Amini and Watkins said in a statement at the time, “We are so thrilled with how McMafia has resonated with audiences across the world and are delighted to be given the opportunity to cast more light on the shady intersections of transnational criminals and their enablers in finance, law, intelligence agencies and even in governments.”
Later in the year, AMC confirmed that McMafia had been renewed for Season 2. However, in May 2022, outlets such as Metro quoted insider sources claiming that McMafia Season 2 had been canceled due to the war in Ukraine. Glenny took to Twitter (now known as X) shortly after to refute the claims. The author of the source material insisted that everything was “Very much on track for Season 2.”
In January 2023, Daily Mail quoted James Norton, who portrays Alex Goodman, saying that he and the others involved in the project would love to return to it. “There’s an awful lot of love for that show, not least from me,” he said. “And if the right story came along, then we would definitely do it. People still ask me about the show and its return definitely remains a possibility.”
Since then, not much has been heard about the prospective second season. However, given what Norton said, the fans can hold onto some hope that it might happen in the future.
