Are Dolly Parton and Miley Cyrus related?
Dolly Parton is the Godmother of Miley Cyrus.
While the 77-year-old star isn’t related to Cyrus biologically, she was asked to be her godmother even before she was born. It’s no secret that Parton adores her goddaughter and always has nice things to say about her.
Speaking on Sirius XM’s “The Howard Stern Show,” Parton said:
“I love Miley. She’s my little sweetheart. I’ve known her since before she was born, actually.”
When asked whether Cyrus ever came to her for any advice, she said:
“Well, she’s asked me a lot of things. She mostly just runs things by me, and we talk. She’s very successful. Miley’s very smart. She’s very intuitive about the business, and I just think Miley’s a spectacular human being and an amazing talent.”
Parton and Cyrus have publicly shared several sweet moments. But the story of how their relationship began is also quite amazing.
How did Dolly Parton become Miley Cyrus’ godmother?
Dolly Parton became close friends with Billy Ray Cyrus, and when asked about being his daughter’s godmother, she accepted saying that she’d “be honored.”
Speaking on Sirius XM’s The Howard Stern Show, Parton revealed how she came to be Miley Cyrus’ godmother. She talked about becoming great friends with Miley’s father Billy Ray Cyrus when he toured to promote “Achy Breaky Heart” with her in 1992. She said:
“We just got to be good friends because he’s a Kentucky boy, I’m from Tennessee. And he said … ‘We’re having a girl, and you’ve got to be her godmother!’ And I said: ‘Well, I’d be honored.’ So actually, Miley and I took over from there. We just stayed very, very close through the years.”
Miley Cyrus has collaborated with her godmother on multiple occasions. She was seen performing Cyrus’ “Wrecking Ball” from 2013 for Parton’s rock album, “Rockstar,” which arrived on November 17, 2023.
