With Spider-Man fans looking forward to all Spidey-centric upcoming movies, a rumor about an R-rated Spider-Man movie has intrigued many. Is it coming out and who will be the lead in it? Here’s all you need to know.
Will Sony release an R-rated Spider-Man movie?
Sony is rumored to be developing an animated R-rated Spider-Man movie featuring Spider-Punk.
Hobart ‘Hobie’ Brown aka Spider-Punk made his debut in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse. Hailing from Earth-138, he became one of the coolest additions to the Spider-Verse sequel. His backstory is similar to almost every other Spider-Man in the Spider-Verse, with him getting his abilities after being bitten by a Radioactive Spider.
But he is very openly against authority and is defined by his punk-like attitude. With his talent as a musician, he also started a band featuring Spider-Gwen.
Now, according to certain insiders, Sony is developing a Spider-Punk spinoff movie set in the Spider-Verse. Needless to say, this rumor should be taken with a grain of salt. But, it would also make sense for Sony to focus on Spider-Punk after they get done with Miles’ story in Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse.
Will Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, or Tom Holland appear in Sony’s R-rated Spider-Man?
No, Tobey Maguire, Andrew Garfield, or Tom Holland will not appear in Sony’s R-rated Spider-Punk movie as it will likely feature Daniel Kaluuya as the voice.
Kaluuya voiced Hobie Brown in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, and is set to return in Beyond the Spider-Verse. After that, he could be the lead in his own Spider-Verse spinoff. Since the rumored movie is about Spider-Punk, it’ll probably take place almost entirely on Earth-138. But it’ll be interesting if Miles Morales or Spider-Gwen also show up in it.
