Many Taylor Swift fans are finding themselves unable to search for her username or related results on Twitter (X) and are wondering what’s happened and if she has been blocked from the social media platform. Here is everything you need to know.
Why can’t you search for Taylor Swift on Twitter (X)?
You cannot search for Taylor Swift or other searches related to her on Twitter (X) as the social media platform has blocked her name as a search term.
Recently, multiple Twitter (X) users spread a series of explicit Taylor Swift AI deep-faked images on the social media site, causing them to trend. The images were then removed after widespread backlash and public outcry.
Since Saturday and up until the time of publishing, searching for Taylor Swift on Twitter (X) and pressing “Enter” will result in being redirected to a page with the following message:
“Something went wrong. Try reloading.”
The search terms “Taylor Swift Chiefs” and “Taylor AI Swift”, however, still yield normal search results of posts related to those terms.
In a statement to Variety, the company’s Head of Business Operations, Joe Benarroch, revealed that this block of Taylor Swift’s account and other searches related to her was only temporary and that it was done with “an abundance of caution” in order to “prioritize safety on this issue.”
