The Oscars 2024 nominations are out and people have been left wondering why Leonardo DiCaprio wasn’t nominated as best actor for his performance in Killers of the Flower Moon. Here’s all you need to know about the Oscars snub.
Why wasn’t Leonardo DiCaprio nominated for an Oscar for Killers Of The Flower Moon?
The Academy possibly found it tough to root for Leonardo DiCaprio this time as he played the villain/antihero, Ernest Burkhart in Killers Of The Flower Moon.
The Academy has always had a love-hate relationship with DiCaprio. After all, his performances in Titanic and The Departed were also both snubbed. Titanic brought in 14 nominations but DiCaprio wasn’t called out in the Best Actor in a Leading Role category.
Something similar has happened with Killers of the Flower Moon. It has secured 10 Oscar nominations including Best Picture, Best Director, Best Actress in a Leading Role, and Best Actor in a Supporting Role. All that the list is missing is Leonardo DiCaprio’s name in the Best Actor category, as the following names were chosen to be nominated ahead of him:
- Bradley Cooper – Maestro
- Colman Domingo – Rustin
- Paul Giamatti – The Holdovers
- Cillian Murphy – Oppenheimer
- Jeffrey Wright – American Fiction
While DiCaprio put all his experience, skills, heart, and soul into his latest performance, it wasn’t enough to land him a nomination at the 96th Academy Awards. He was nominated for Golden Globes 2024 earlier this year, but the Academy possibly chose others over him because it was hard to root for a manipulative and villainous lead.
Others on the list were all protagonists that the Academy was possibly able to relate to in a better way. Since they were just allowed to pick five nominees, they decided to go with the aforementioned performances instead of DiCaprio.

The actor’s heartfelt and highly committed performance in The Revenant allowed him to finally win Best Actor at the Oscars. But unfortunately, the same will not happen for his performance in Killers of the Flower Moon.
