After Season 2, fans are already looking forward to Reacher Season 3. Many wish to find out which Lee Child book it will be based on. So, here’s all you need to know about the potential inspiration behind Reacher Season 3.
Which book will Reacher Season 3 be based on?
UPDATE: Alan Ritchson revealed that Reacher Season 3 will be based on Lee Child’s 7th book, “Persuader”.
Alan Ritchson has remained tight-lipped about the book that Season 3 is going to adapt. However, Jack Reacher author Lee Child teased it in his comments to The Messenger. He confirmed that a book had been chosen, and said:
“We’ve picked it up, it’s chosen. It’s a good choice, I gotta say. I think we’ve been very creative about how we’ve sequenced the type of story.”
He continued:
“We felt we needed a book that was more Reacher alone for the third season. And so it was a question of which story would work best for that, and which one would have a great opening scene and all of that, and we found one that we loved.”
Reacher Season 1 was based on the first novel, ‘Killing Floor’, while Season 2 took on the 11th novel, ‘Bad Luck & Trouble’. Tom Cruise’s Jack Reacher movies have adapted book number 9, ‘One Shot’ and book number 18 ‘Never Go Back’ in their respective release order.
So, we can be sure that Reacher season 3 won’t be taking on these 4 books. But we’ve got several clues to speculate which one it’ll be.
Predictions for Reacher Season 3 novel
Reacher Season 3 is likely based on Lee Child’s ‘Die Trying’ or ‘Tripwire’.
Alan Ritchson confirmed that the next storyline is his favorite one. In an interview with Slash Film, he also stated that he loved Lee Child’s second book, ‘Die Trying.’ He even revealed his wish to bring that story to life. Considering what Lee Child said about Reacher Season 3 being a solo story, ‘Die Trying’ certainly fits the bill.
It starts in Chicago and sees Reacher going across the country to track down an FBI agent named Holly Johnson, who is kidnapped in the beginning. But with Maria Sten confirmed to return as Frances Neagley, at least a part of the story needs to take place in New York. So, either Season 3 could see Reacher briefly ending up in New York while trying to track Johnson, or it could be based on book number 3, ‘Tripwire,’ which is also set in New York.
Besides these two novels, ‘Worth Dying For’, ‘61 Hours’, and ‘Personal’ are three other books that offer great solo stories involving Jack Reacher. So, we have good reason to believe that the next season will be based on one of these five books.
