Josh Hutcherson has been involved in many successful movie franchises, so fans are often curious if he ever tried out for a Marvel role. Was he considered to play a version of Spider-Man and could he join the MCU in the future? Here’s all you need to know.
Did Josh Hutcherson audition for Spider-Man?
Josh Hutcherson admitted to auditioning for The Amazing Spider-Man and losing the role to Andrew Garfield.
In a recent interview with Inverse, Hutcherson revealed that he got very far in the process of becoming the second Spider-Man after Tobey Maguire. But despite a good audition, he never found out why he didn’t land the role. He said:
“You never find out. They just end up hiring somebody else. So, I never found out why. I also do know that three weeks or so after I auditioned, I ended up getting Hunger Games, so it kind of worked out.”
While not being Spider-Man could have felt like a setback, it wasn’t a big blow since he bagged The Hunger Games franchise role less than a month after that. Besides that, he also starred in other popular roles including Five Nights at Freddy’s and Escobar: Paradise Lost, among others.
Will Josh Hutcherson join the MCU?
While Hutcherson hasn’t been officially cast in an MCU role yet, he showed a willingness to play a multiversal Spider-Man after Spider-Man: No Way Home made it possible.
Talking to Inverse, Hutcherson stated that he “was a big Spider-Man fan all my life from the old-school cartoons and stuff.” He also went on to show his interest in still playing a version of Spider-Man. He said:
“Yeah, I’d be open to it, man. I’d throw some webs around.”
Since the MCU and Sony’s Spider-Verse already have several Spider-Men, with another potential Miles Morales version on his way, it’d be interesting to see if Hutcherson ends up playing some other character, such as Cyclops.
