With fans looking forward to so many highly anticipated upcoming movies based on 80s properties, an Explorers remake has intrigued many. Is the 1985 movie getting a do-over? Here’s all you need to know.
Is there going to be an Explorers movie remake?
The Explorers movie has been rumored to be getting a remake, which is under development by Paramount.
Familiar scooper Daniel RPK revealed through his Patreon that Paramount is producing a remake of the 1985 Explorers movie. According to his description, this modern-day remake will follow “a group of young kids embarking on a journey into uncharted territories.”
Considering the film hasn’t been officially announced, we need to take the latest scoop with a grain of salt. But it’s also worth noting that Daniel Richtman’s intel has proven reliable in the past. Furthermore, Deadline also reported that an Explorers remake was being turned into a TV series back in 2018. But nothing came out of that. So, with evidence that Paramount once recently wanted an Explorers remake, we have more reason to believe that it could be coming out in the next few years.
For those who aren’t familiar with it, the original 80s movie saw a homemade spaceship put three boys in touch with aliens. Directed by Joe Dante and written by Eric Luke, Explorers starred Ethan Hawke, River Phoenix, and Jason Presson as the three boys in the lead.
Daniel RPK didn’t reveal if any actors have been cast to replace the original actors. But it’ll be interesting to see if Ethan Hawke will return in a different role in the rumored remake. River Phoenix tragically passed away in 1993, and Jason Presson may not be back because he hasn’t been active as an actor since 1991.
