After comedian Katt Williams made headlines for claiming that fellow comedian Cedric the Entertainer stole a joke from him, fans are curious about how the situation started. Here is everything you need to know about the matter.
What joke did Cedric the Entertainer steal from Katt Williams?
It is currently unknown what exact joke Cedric the Entertainer stole from Katt Williams. Williams simply alleged that he did without elaborating on what joke it was.
In an appearance on the Club Shay Shay podcast, Katt Williams claimed that Cedric the Entertainer stole one of his jokes. Williams alleged that Cedric thought that he (Williams) was a no-name comedian whom he could steal a joke from and no one would know.
Williams further alleged that Cedric the Entertainer came up to him at the comedy store and congratulated him for the joke. Williams then claimed:
“Two years later, he’s doing that as his last joke on the ‘Kings of Comedy’ and he’s doing it verbatim. He’s just changed my car into a spaceship.”
While it is unknown what the copied joke was, it is possible that it was the joke made by Williams during his appearance at the Bet ComicView in 1998 where he said the following:
“You had your car radio up so loud that you couldn’t hear the damn thing when it cut off. It look like this.”
This was followed by Williams taking off his jacket and acting like he was driving a car on stage.
Then two years later, Cedric performed something strikingly similar in Spike Lee’s “The Original Kings of Comedy” special where he said the following joke and subsequently made a similar car-driving impression demonstrated by Williams.
“Y’all move to the moon, dammit, we comin’ to the moon. We’ll be right behind y’all in space shuttles with Cadillac grilles.”
However, Cedric has outright denied stealing a joke from Williams by calling his claims “revisionist history”.
