AUDIO COMMENTARY
- Listen to co-writer/director Nia DaCosta and VFX Supervisor Tara DeMarco talk about the film.
According to previous reports, The Marvels has been the lowest-performing MCU movie at the box office, both domestically and globally. Against a reported $274.8 million budget, the film only opened to an unfavorable $46 million at the domestic box office and garnered only $109 million worldwide.
The film’s lackluster box office debut is attributed by some critics to superhero fatigue, while others cite the SAG-AFTRA strike as a primary factor. Previously, the cast was prohibited from promoting the film in favor of the now-ended strikes, which also prevented them from hyping it up.
In addition to Larson, Parris, and Khan, the film also stars Samuel L. Jackson, Zawe Ashton, Gary Lewis, Park Seo-Joon, Zenobia Shroff, and Mohan Kapur. Some known characters also appeared in the film, including Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie, Hailee Steinfeld’s Kate Bishop, Lashana Lynch’s Maria Rambeau, and Kelsey Grammer’s Beast.
Kevin Feige is the film’s producer, with Louis D’Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Mary Livanos, Jonathan Schwartz, and Matthew Jenkins serving as executive producers.
