Who is Bitconned’s Ray Trapani?
Ray Trapani was the COO and co-founder of the illegitimate company Centra Tech, through which he and his fellow founders Sam “Sorbee” Sharma and Robert Farkas scammed many people.
In his childhood, Trapani had the ambition of becoming a criminal. After becoming an adult, he moved to Miami and started a car dealership company called Miami Exotics, becoming a CEO alongside Sorbee, a former high school acquaintance. However, they lost their money and both Trapani and Sharma were in a bad place financially until they decided to cash in on the booming cryptocurrency trend and started Centra Tech.
Trapani, Sorbee, and Farkas soon made fake LinkedIn profiles to make it seem like they had an education, in particular making themselves seem like they were Harvard graduates. Eventually, they produced the Centra Card, which worked like any debit card and allowed cardholders to spend their cryptocurrencies in all flat-rate currency transactions. They aimed to create “a true bridge to the world and cryptocurrencies”. They also made it appear that their card was legitimately backed and authorized to issue cards by Visa, MasterCard, and Bancorp.
Ray Trapani and Sorbee Sharma soon had celebrities like DJ Khaled, Floyd Mayweather, and Paris Hilton endorse their Centra Card and Centra Tech by extension.
Eventually, their lies caught up to them, and Centra Tech was exposed. Ray, Sorbee, and Robert were then arrested on multiple felony charges.
Is Ray Trapani in prison now?
No, Ray Trapani is not in prison now. Unlike Sorbee and Farkas who were charged with an eight-year and one-year sentence, Trapani was not charged with jail time due to his cooperation in helping convict Sorbee and Farkas.
However, Trapani was ordered by the court to pay back $2.9 million to his victims and two months later, he bought a house, where he, his wife, and his son reside.
