After rumors hit the web of Doctor Who spin-off Torchwood making a return in the form of a reboot, fans are curious about whether or not there is any truth to them. Here is all you need to know.
Is Torchwood coming back?
Torchwood has not been officially confirmed to return as of publishing.
However, according to reputable but semi-reliable industry insider Daniel RPK, a Torchwood revival is being considered, and discussions about making it a reality have taken place. Despite this exciting rumor, fans should take it with a grain of salt and wait for official confirmation.
Torchwood and Doctor Who creator Russell T. Davies teased that Torchwood could make a return, but not at any point in the near future, in a Q+A session for Digital Spy, related to the recently released Doctor Who specials. Davies did not promise a return but stated that he was thinking about having the show return.
On the other hand, Phil Ford, a writer for Torchwood has expressed active interest and even called for the series to be revived in an interview with Radiotimes, where he said:
“I’ve always wanted to see more done with UNIT. I’ve always thought there’s stuff we could do with UNIT there,”
He then added:
“And, of course, I think there’s every case for bringing back a version of Torchwood. But the thing about Doctor Who is the universe is so huge over all these years, over 60 years, there’s so many places you could go to to develop spin-offs. But I honestly have no idea what is going on in the great man’s mind so we’ll have to wait and find out.”
So, even if there is no official news on Torchwood’s return, Davies and Ford’s comments hint at Torchwood’s revival not being a far-off possibility.
